This photo is of my dad on the left, Adelbert Paul Marous, and his brother Eugene. My dad, or “Junior” as he was known as a kid, was born in 1928, while Eugene followed in March of 1931. Because the boys are dressed in summer clothes, I imagine this photo was taken in the summer of 1936 since “Gene” looks to be about three years old. Notice the lace on my dad’s socks. I can’t help but wonder if they are borrowed from one of his many older sisters.
I just love the sweetness of this photo of the two brothers who would grow up and eventually spend their adult lives together operating an excavating company. Their neat haircuts and clean faces in this photo belie the stories of their rough and tumble childhood growing up in Highland Heights, Ohio on a small farm.
