In the Spring of 2020 because of the coronavirus lockdown, we all have a bit more time on our hands. I decided to try to use this time to work on my family history again. My family knows this has been a passion of mine for most of my life. I have been going through some files and photo’s and discovered this photo of my grandmother, Lillian Marous–my father’s mother. Here she is with six of her children with my father on her lap. He was born in January of 1928, so I’m dating this photo in the spring or summer of that year. Perhaps it was taken on Easter of that year since the children do look like they are nicely dressed? Interesting that I am posting this image on Easter weekend of 2020, ninety-two years later.
Her last child, my Uncle Eugene has not been born yet. The interesting thing about this photo is that Loretta, the young little girl sitting front and center, would die a few months later in November of a twisted colon–or at least that is what I vaguely remember from family stories. This is probably the only photo of Loretta since it was also used to create an memoriam portrait of her that is also included in my collection of family photographs.
Sitting in front of Gram Marous is (left to right) Leonard, Dorothy, Loretta, Arlene and Alberta.
