At the age of 17, Clarence O. M. Strader, my great-grandfather, enlisted in the U.S. Army. It was December 7, 1905. He was discharged exactly one year later. The insignia on his hat is the universal medical symbol, so chances are he served in some capacity of medical support while he served in the Army.
