This photograph was provided to me by my mom’s cousin, Barbara Reynolds. She had taken an interest in this website and kindly allowed me include some of the family photo’s that were passed down to her. On the left in the photo is my great-aunt, Helen Strader. On the right is Helen’s sister, my grandmother, Dorothy Strader. I’m using their maiden names since this photo was most certainly taken when the two were just young women before they were married.

The most fascinating thing about this photo is the woman standing between Helen and Dorothy. It’s Phebe Babb Case–their maternal grandmother. That makes her my great-great-grandmother! What a thrill to be able to see what my grandmother’s grandmother looked like. (By the way, she was born in 1861.)

Another interesting photo that Barbara provided me was this group shot, obviously taken the same day. The people in this photo are (left to right) Clarence O. M. Strader (my great-grandfather), Lucy Case Strader (my great-grandmother and daughter of Phebe’s), Helen, Phebe, Dorothy (again, my grandmother) and Mary, Phebe’s other daughter, making her my grandmother’s aunt. Seated in front are Clarence, also known as Bud, and Lucy (Barbara’s mother). Click on the photo for a larger view.

Strader family with Phebe Case

My guess is that these photo’s were taken sometime in the late 1920’s since Lucy, the little girl in the front, was born in 1920. She looks to be under age 10. So have you noticed the house behind our ancestors? I assume the house was somewhere in New Jersey since that’s where the family was from. Click on this photo of the house for a larger view and you’ll see just how primitive our ancestors’ lives were!
